Some project management programmes are about learning more tools. Others are about changing the way we think about projects.
On 5 September 2026, Project Xcellence Partners (PXP) delivered a 1-Day Project Management Excellence (PME) Intensive programme for a closed cohort of 19 leaders and project practitioners.
The challenge was an interesting one: how do we take some of the most important lessons from decades of managing projects and compress them into a single day without turning the programme into a marathon of slides?
The answer was to concentrate on the things that matter most.
We explored the fundamentals behind project success and failure, the importance of understanding the real Project Driver, the Triple Constraint and what lies beyond it, the role of the Project Charter, stakeholder alignment, project leadership, and the thinking required to anticipate problems before they become project issues.
A central message throughout the day was simple:
Project excellence is not achieved by managing more processes. It comes from making better project decisions.
The sessions combined practical experience, discussions, real project situations and interactive learning, including a little competitive Kahoot! to keep everyone awake and dangerous.
For PXP, programmes such as this are not intended merely to transfer knowledge. We want participants to leave questioning some of the assumptions they have carried into their projects, seeing familiar problems differently and, most importantly, becoming better equipped to lead.
One intensive day. Nineteen project minds in the room. Plenty of discussion.
And hopefully, a few ideas that will influence many projects yet to come.
